Uzoma Samuel has accused Errand360, a Nigerian logistics company, of leaving Uzoma Chidera, his brother, to die in prison after ordering his arrest for allegedly stealing the organisation’s bicycle.

Samuel told FIJ the 19-year-old boy had been working with Errand360 as a deliveryman for a while when the organisation’s bicycle was stolen from him in April.

“He parked the bike outside the building he lives in and it went missing. The company didn’t believe the story, instead they got him arrested and he was taken to Ikoyi,” he said.

Samuel, who lives outside Lagos, said the only person aware of Chidera’s arrest at the time was Kenneth, a friend in Lagos. However, upon hearing about the arrest, Kenneth informed the family and funds were raised to buy the organisation a new bicycle.

In the process of getting Chidera out of custody, said Samuel, the police informed Kenneth that he had died. When the family arrived Lagos and reached out to the logistics company, they denied getting him arrested in the first place.

“The company is only saying he absconded with their bicycle. They are not admitting that they got him arrested. We got to Ikoyi Prison where Chidera was remanded, and they brought out a case file showing that the company was the complainant,” he stated.

When FIJ contacted Errand360, a worker at the company said their legal team was now in charge of the case and they had been advised not to make comments.

“At the moment, our legal team are the ones in charge of the case. I won’t be able to respond to your question,” he said.
