Essenwa Peter, a US-based Software Engineer at Oliver Space, has accused GIG Logistics, a courier and logistics company with headquarters in Lagos, of delaying the shipment of his item since January 20.

Peter said he bought a house appliance on Amazon at the start of the year, but the company refused to deliver it to Nigeria.

“I bought the house appliance item on Amazon and had it delivered to GiG’s Houston Branch. That is their US branch from which they ship to Nigeria,” he said.

“I have used GIG for international shipping before now. This is not my first time. The overall cost is less compared to shipping with Amazon directly.”

Peter said he was assured by GIG Logistics that the item would be delivered to Nigeria between 14 and 28 days after receiving payment, but the company refused to fulfill their promise.

Peter said he recently received a mail from GIG Logistics informing him that his shipment was still undergoing inspection at US customs.

“It has been four months now and I have not received my item. Intermittently, GIG would send emails to show they were still working on delivering it,” he said.

He said the last message he received was on April 25, and the company blamed Nigerians who were involved in card fraud schemes.

“My biggest issue with them is the lack of transparency. It took three months for them to send a mail barely containing any useful information about the reason for the delay,” said Peter.

FIJ made several calls to GIG Logistics’ office in Houston but they were not answered. Messages sent to them had also not been responded to at press time.
