A man who identified simply as Bode on Twitter has narrated how SIM registration agents engage in illegal dealings by using customers’ details to register other SIM cards for sale.

Bode said he wanted to buy a GLO SIM card so he approached a vendor. He said he gave his personal data, hoping that his chosen card would be registered, only to find out that another SIM card had also been registered with his personal details.

“Usually, you are expected to be captured once, but the vendor captured me twice, and that made me suspicious. Immediately after the registration, I got welcome text messages indicating that I registered two numbers instead of one,” he said.

When Bode asked the GLO agent the reason for the double SIM registration with his details, he said it was as a result of a network glitch.

Bode said that he went to a GLO office to file a complaint, but the office manager told him that this was not a network problem as the agent claimed. The number was eventually deregistered and the vendor arrested.

“Now imagine if he sold this second number to a fraudster and kidnapper and when tracked, my picture and details popped up.”

When questioned, Bode stated that the GLO agent admitted that he and his colleagues often register other SIM cards with customers’ personal data and sell them to other people.
