Nasir el-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State, has declared the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ayuba Wabba and others wanted for economic sabotage and attacks on public infrastructure.

The Governor made the statement on Tuesday morning on his Twitter page.

The NLC had started a five-day warning industrial action, which saw every sector of the Kaduna State economy brought to a standstill. The industrial action started at midnight on Sunday in response to the mass sacking of workers in Kaduna State.

El-Rufai stated that he would give “a handsome reward” to anyone “that knows where he (Wabba) is hiding”, asking that a message be sent to the Ministry of Justice, Kaduna State. he also stated that Wabba had broken the law under the Miscellaneous Offences Act.

Protests in Kaduna State on Monday led to a total shutdown of the state. FIJ learnt that the state was in total blackout, and the prices of generators had skyrocketed. The transport system, both air and rail, was equally shut down.

In November 2014, el-Rufai was part of those who led the protests tagged ‘Salvation Rally’ in Abuja against the government of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. His current criticism of the NLC strike has been seen on social media as hypocrisy and as an infringement on the fundamental right to peaceful assembly.

In a press release signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye on Monday, the Kaduna State government stated that “the resort to coercion and imposition of restraints on the personal freedom and comfort of citizens confirm that this is a campaign of sabotage, not an industrial action”.
