The Nigerian passport has been ranked 100 out of 112 in a new quarterly report released by Henley & Partners, a global citizenship and residence advisory firm which ranks countries based on the level of travel freedom enjoyed by their citizens.

According to the 2022 Q3 Global Passport Ranking report of the firm, the Nigerian passport provides direct access to just 46 countries without a prior visa. This makes it less valuable than those of Timor-Leste, Niger, Burundi, Nauru, and Djibouti.

With access to 193 countries without a prior visa, Japan ranks number one in the passport index, followed by Singapore and South Korea, which passport holders have access to 192 countries. The United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and a host of European nations occupy the top spots in the index.

The Henley Passport Index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the largest and most accurate travel information database.

Henley & Partners has been collecting data for its passport index for 17 years. The index includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations. It is the standard reference tool when assessing where a passport ranks on the global mobility spectrum.
