The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) held a protest in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State, in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Tuesday.
The union and its affiliates embarked on the protest to express their dissatisfaction with the prolonged ASUU strike, fuel hike, bad governance and other challenges facing the country.
The demonstration was held simultaneously in the nation’s 36 state capitals and the FCT as proposed by Ayuba Wadda, the president of the NLC, on Sunday.
NLC Threatens Strike, Nationwide Protest Over FG’s Planned Petrol Subsidy Removal
Dozens of protesters hit the streets with placards bearing different inscriptions to express their grievances. They demanded the release of revitalisation funds to universities, the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement and the release of the earned allowances of university lecturers, among others.
