Father Cyriacus Kamai, a Catholic priest in Taraba State, has revealed that he lost 18 of his parishioners to herdsmen attacks in one year.

Kamai said this on Twitter on Saturday, faulting the belief that priests should not get involved in politics.

“In 2019, I buried 18 of my parishioners who were killed by herdsmen. We were refugees for one year. We couldn’t go home,” he said.

“Kutep people are under attack right now in Taraba State and someone will say you are a priest, don’t be involved in politics. We will fight for our people.

“2023 will be a vote to be alive or die. We will fight for our people with no fear of intimidation by anybody. After all, we are just but moving corpses.”

Taraba State is one of the hotspots of herdsmen attacks in northern Nigeria. In July, Hon. Garba Ajiya, a member of the state’s house of assembly, raised the alarm over the sacking of 25 villages in his constituency by suspected herdsmen.
