Donald Trump, the recently ousted President of the United States, has praised Nigeria for suspending the activities of Twitter, saying the microblogging platform doesn’t allow free speech.

In a statement released on his official website on Tuesday night, Trump suggested that he would do likewise if he returned as America’s president in 2024.

“Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President. More COUNTRIES should ban Twitter and Facebook for not allowing free and open speech – all voices should be heard,” he said.

“’In the meantime, competitors will emerge and take hold. Who are they to dictate good and evil if they themselves are evil? Perhaps I should have done it while I was President. But Zuckerberg kept calling me and coming to the White House for dinner telling me how great I was. 2024?”

Trump was booted out of the platform in the midst of the insurrection at the US Capitol in January.  He was banned both on Twitter and Facebook after calling his violent supporters protesting his loss at the polls “great patriots”.

Among the seven people said to have died from the Capitol violence were a law enforcement agent who died the following day of stroke, and two officers who took their own lives in the aftermath.
