Between Monday and Friday, the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State, suffered a blackout and was unable to attend to some patients, FIJ can report.

A source who sought anonymity for fear of victimisation, told FIJ that one of his relatives had been admitted to the hospital for a while, and was scheduled for dialysis on Monday.

The source said when this relative was to have the dialysis, a matron in the hospital told them that they would have to reschedule for lack of power.

“My relative was supposed to do a dialysis on Monday because of kidney failure, but they rescheduled and kept rescheduling because there was no light,” the source told FIJ.

“I went there, and people were also there lamenting because there was no power. Even the generators were off.”

In a video, the source captures the dark halls of the hospital and its non-functional electrical appliances.

FIJ also obtained a lab card for a test that was rescheduled due to power outage.

When FIJ contacted Toye Akinrinlola, UCH spokesperson, for comments, he told our reporter that the theatre had light and the hospital had gone about its operations normally.

“We have generators on standby, there is no blackout,” Akinrinlola told FIJ. He, however, refused to comment on the blackout and schedule changes.

A source within the hospital told FIJ that the light was later restored on Friday evening.
