The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of the mutilated corpse of Gbenga Olofingboyegun, a director in the state’s teaching service commission, in Akure on Sunday.

Olofingboyegun’s son identified the mutilated body of his father who was declared missing on Thursday.

Funmilayo Odunlami, the Ondo Police Public Relations Officer, told FIJ the circumstances of the discovery on Sunday.

She said the corpse was found in the suit and tie Olofingboyegun wore on Thursday. His attackers had cut off his head and ripped out his gut.

“Yesterday, the police received an anonymous call that a decomposing corpse was found around Saint Theresa Primary School. It is a kind of abandoned school. When the police went to the school, we tried evacuating the corpse,” Odunlami told FIJ on Sunday.

“In the course of evacuation, a young man came forward and told us that the dead man was his father, considering the clothes he was wearing. The son said that that was the clothes he wore last.

“By the time the police got there, the corpse had been beheaded, the stomach sliced and the intestines out.”

Odunlami also said the police found other items at the scene and would work with them for their investigation.
