Citing a growing trend of indecent behaviour between both sexes, the state government had said it would put its male and female students in separate places of study.

Aliyu Tilde, Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, told journalists that the state would execute the new policy wherever it was possible.

The state government also expected some private secondary schools to follow the new rule. Students often protest laws and policies they believe restrict their development.

In December 2021, FIJ reported how students of the Ojodu Grammar School in Lagos took to the streets to protest the killing of their schoolmates in an unfortunate truck accident.

Security operatives, including police officers, shot tear gas cannisters into the school compound to quell the demonstration.
