Work has now resumed on the abandoned road in Irawo, Agboyi Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Kosofe Local Government Area, Lagos, FIJ can confirm.

This is coming nearly a week after FIJ reported that the road, still under construction, had been abandoned in a worse state than it was before the project began.

A commercial driver who plies the Irawo Road told FIJ that work resumed on the road on Monday, contrary to the claims of Mayor Dele Oshinowo, the executive chairman of the LCDA, that work had not stopped.

“The contractor just resumed work today. They were not there throughout last week. They brought in their equipment and poured sand on a part of the road to begin work again,” said the driver.

Another resident also told FIJ that the contractor had returned to the site with his equipment and workers.

On June 19, FIJ reported how the contractor handling the road project removed his equipment from the road, thus plunging residents of the area into despair.

A description of the road project shows that it is being handled by Gales Engineering Limited, a construction firm based in Ketu, and should be completed within six months, but the contractor had taken his equipment off the road just a few weeks after embarking on the project.

When FIJ called the Agboyi-Ketu LCDA for comments on the absence of the contractor, Oshinowo claimed work was still ongoing.

However, FIJ understands that work only resumed on the road on Monday.
