AbdulFatai Adigun, the officer spearheading the Strike Force of Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, in Ikeja on Friday ordered the release of Tochukwu Ugah, a resident of Ikorodu who was illegally detained for six days for allegedly using the phone of his housemate’s guest, Kolawole Kolade, to borrow N4,000 recharge card from MTN on July 10.

On Friday, FIJ had reported how the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) of the case, Inspector Balogun, and Officer Wole, the Assistant IPO, demanded N500,000 bribe from Ugah’s family in exchange for his freedom.

After FIJ’s intervention, Adigun invited the concerned parties into his office for resolution. FIJ gathered that the resolution happened shortly after the O/C Strike Force ended a meeting with the Police Commissioner.

At about 7:35pm on Friday, Ugah was brought out of Cell 2 at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja. He ended his documentation for bail at exactly 8pm.

“The O/C Strike Force warned me to be mindful of the kind of friends I keep,” Ugah told FIJ after his release.

“After ordering my release, he vowed that the case was not yet over as the Police would ensure they get to the root of the matter and apprehend the complainant’s impersonator.”

Ifeanyi Azode, nicknamed ‘Bobby’, Ugah’s housemate, said to be the main suspect of impersonation case reported by Kolade, has been on the run since Saturday.

Meanwhile, this is the second time Adigun would be forced to belatedly release innocent detainees following FIJ’s reports about the extortionate officers under his supervision.

Please keep up the good Fij….. The faceless citizens always depend on your timely, qualitative and never relenting work on getting justice as at when due. One day Justice in Nigeria will be at its best due to your efforts. Keep it up.
