Muhammed Idris, an Abuja-based civil servant, has narrated how Arik Air, a Nigerian aviation company, refused to refund his N54,726 after a canceled flight.
Speaking with FIJ, Idris said that a flight scheduled for January 15 was cancelled abruptly by the airline a day before takeoff.
“In January, I booked a one-way flight with Arik Air for my wife and daughter, but on January 14, a day before the scheduled date, I received a message from the airline that the flight had been cancelled,” he told FIJ.

The civil servant stated that when he visited the airline’s office in Transcorp Hilton, they denied him refund by requesting that he provide a stamped bank statement.
“On February 13, I visited their office at Transcorp Hilton to request a refund but one of their staff, to whom I was supposed to submit my refund form, said they would not accept bank statements downloaded online,” he said.
“The staff said I had to visit my bank to obtain a real stamped bank statement. But when I visited my bank (GTB), they insisted that I download the statement online.
“Arik Air won’t also accept the downloaded bank statement from me. I have sent several emails to them, including the form they gave me at Transcorp Hilton.
“I have not received a refund or a response to any of my emails. I am tired of sending them emails since I won’t get a response. In the last email I sent to them, I told them I wouldn’t send more emails.

“They responded this time and apologised. They also promised to escalate it that I would get a refund by May. This was for an event that happened in January.”
FIJ’s email to Banji Ola, the public relations officer of Arik Air, on Thursday morning, had not been responded to at press time.
