Sanyaolu Juwon, one of the coordinators of the nationwide protest held on Democracy Day, who was arrested by the police in Lagos State, has been released.
FIJ gathered that he was released on Thursday night, two days after the police arrested him in his home in Lagos.
Juwon, who is also the national coordinator of a human rights organisation known as the Take It Back (TIB) movement, was arrested on Tuesday night, the eve of the nationwide protest.

After his release on Thursday, FIJ learned from one of the protest organisers that Juwon was detained by the police and the Department of State Security (DSS).
“Police and DSS picked him up, passed him to the DSS. Then DSS returned him to the police,” he said.
While revealing that no one knew where he was being held during the Lagos edition of the protest on Wednesday, the protesting civil societies demanded Juwon’s immediate release.

There were speculations that he might have been arrested by the officers of the police force headquarters. However, the police and the DSS claimed ignorance of his arrest.
S.O. Kuti, the deputy police public relations officer for Lagos, who was present during the protest march, revealed that the police command was not aware of Juwon’s arrest.
Also, hours before Juwon was released on Thursday, the DSS denied his arrest.
