Libmot Express, the logistics arm of Libra Motors, has paid N38,000 in restitution to Sunday Johnson, a Lagos resident, whose water closet was damaged while being conveyed to its destination.

Johnson told FIJ that this unexpected but positive development came on Tuesday morning, six days after FIJ’s report detailed his experience with the company.

“Three months after being ignored by Libmot Express, the Foundation for Investigative Journalism intervened, and I got a refund for the damaged water closet set I ‘waybilled’. FIJ is doing a fantastic job. I doff my hat,” Johnson said.

He further said that Libmot Express paid him 80 percent of the N45,000 cost of the water closet but did not refund his dispatch fee because the other parts of the shipment were still in good shape.

Before FIJ’s intervention, Johnson sought indemnification for over three months from Libmot Express after the seat of his water closet got broken in transit but to no avail.

Johnson had paid Libmot Express N21,900 to convey a complete water closet and basin from its Bariga office in Lagos to Aba in Abia State, and they assured him the product would arrive at its destination within three days.

But when the items got to Aba on December 23, they were different from what he had entrusted to them. This was the beginning of the back-and-forth with the firm, which took another three months. He kept requesting to be compensated, but the organisation did not respond to him until FIJ stepped in.
