Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s president, has put out his first tweet, 11 months after abandoning Twitter.
In a tweet made on Monday, Buhari felicitated with Muslims marking the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
He also used the opportunity to promise Nigerians an end to terrorist activities.
“After a period of fasting and reflection, this year, we have cause to welcome the occasion in hope. The battle waged against terrorists who falsely masquerade under the name of Islam is approaching its conclusion,” he wrote.

Buhari said he had recently approved the establishment of a Naval Base in Oguta, Imo State, in the fight against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
He also gave assurances that his government had made moves to curtail drug trafficking and crude oil theft.
The tweet is Buhari’s first since June 1, 2021 when he threatened to punish those ‘bent on destroying Nigeria through insurrection’.
He made the tweet in reference to the 1967-1970 civil war.
“Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” he wrote.
Twitter deleted the statement as it was in violation of its rules and regulations.
In retaliation, the Ministry of Information and Culture announced a suspension of the platform three days after.

The suspension, which took effect on June 5, 2021, was later lifted on January 12, 2022.
Some of the conditions the government gave Twitter for lifting the suspension were for the company to register itself in Nigeria as a corporate entity, pay taxes and set up a physical office.
When FIJ checked the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) website, it observed that Twitter was yet to register itself with the government agency.
The company is also yet to be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange(NSE).
Prior to Buhari’s return, other government agencies, who originally supported the ban, had crawled back to the platform to make tweets after the suspension was lifted.
