Abel Olagunju, a Nigerian residing in the United Kingdom, has detailed how Qatar Airways continues to hold on to his £202 after the airline failed to take him to his Lagos destination from London.
Olagunju told FIJ that he travelled on board a London-to-Lagos flight with the airline on October 20, 2020, but became stranded in Doha, Qatar, because the airline could not connect him with a Lagos-bound flight due to the #EndSARS protest.
“I took the flight from London on October 20, 2020, and the plan was for Qatar Airways to first take me to Doha, and then connect me with another flight that would take me to Lagos,” Olagunju said.

“When I got to Doha, I was told the connecting flight to Lagos had been cancelled. They would later cite the #EndSARS protest as the reason for the cancellation.
“One of the airline’s agents later informed me that the only other alternative available to me was to board an Ethiopia Airline flight that would first take me to Addis Ababa before taking me to Abuja.

“I instantly told them it would not work for me because my final destination was meant to be Lagos, and not Abuja. In the end, I decided to return to London.
“I then re-planned my journey and eventually travelled to Lagos in November of that same year.”
Olagunju said Qatar Airways later promised him a refund voucher worth £202 as compensation in 2020.
“Since they made the promise however, I have sent several emails and spoken to more than three of their agents, but they still have not compensated me for not meeting their end of the bargain,” Olagunju said.
“It has been more than two years and nothing has been heard from Qatar Airways.”
FIJ sent an email to Qatar Airways for comments on the matter on Tuesday, but it had not been responded to at press time.
