It was a sad day for the Delta State Police Command on February 25, as kidnappers ambushed and abducted no fewer than three policemen who were on their way to rescue three previously abducted policemen.

FIJ gathered that the Force drew mobile policemen from several stations in the state to embark on a rescue mission in Bomadi LGA on Sunday, February 25.

Six policemen from Oghara Division joined a team of over 20, and they embarked on the assignment. Things soon went quiet in three households.

In the morning of Monday, February 26, family members of some of the men on assignment received calls from the force command headquarters in Abuja. The person on the other end of the call did not have good news.

“They told us kidnappers ambushed them in Bomadi and opened fire,” one of the missing policemen’s daughters told FIJ. “They said three policemen returned to Oghara but three were captured. My dad did not make it back. We don’t know if he is alive or dead.”

This lady told FIJ that her family reached out to the Delta Command to confirm the development and the force did.

“The whole family is sad,” she said. “Nobody knows where my father is, and they would not allow us access to the policemen who returned. All they are saying is that they are investigating.”

On Monday, FIJ called Bright Edafe, spokesman for the Delta State Police Force, but he did not take our calls. As of press time, he had not responded to our text message.
