When Moses Okam (real name withheld), a Port Harcourt-based businessman, paid N3 million to Afialink in 2022, he least expected disappointment.

As seen on its website, Afialink claims it offers a “trusted, reliable and cost-effective marketplace” for used cars, high-quality electronics and groceries.

Considering that Okam had previously bought a car from the company without issues, he reached out to his contact person in October to order a 2013 Ford Edge.

The businessman told FIJ he paid the money in three instalments between October and November to an account number belonging to Lordbex International Company Ltd.

“Afialink owns Lordbex, and the Lordbex account number that was sent to me was the same account number I paid to when I first got a car from them in 2021,” said Okam.

“I first paid N1.5 million on October 27. On November 4, I paid N1 million and the remaining N500,000 was paid on November 11.

“I knew them online. I got a Sonata Hyundai from them two years ago, and there were no issues.”

According to the businessman, the car was meant to arrive by December 2022, after which he would pay for clearing. But to date, Okam has neither received the car he paid for nor got back his money.

He said the general manager and the other Afialink official have stopped responding to his calls.

“My contact person, whom I first reached out to, kept telling him that I would get the car. The general manager said the same thing too. They were giving me one excuse after another, and they don’t answer the calls anymore,” the businessman said.

In 2022, FIJ published several reports about Afialink, where sources shared how the company failed to deliver their cars or refund them after collecting millions of naira.

FIJ contacted Okam’s contact person via WhatsApp on August 11, but he neither acknowledged the message nor responded it to it. The general manager was equally messaged on Monday, but no response had been received at press time.

Efforts to reach them via phone calls were also futile, as the contact person failed to answer the calls while the manager’s number was unavailable.
