09.10.2022 news ‘Masked Hoodlums’ Kill Two Police Officers in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the death of two police officers after some gunmen attacked Inyi Police station in the Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu on Sunday.

Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu Police public relations officer, told TheCable that the police was trailing the assailants.

“Police operatives are on the trail of the masked hoodlums. Further development will be communicated, please,” Ndukwe said.

The attackers, whose identities were unknown at press time, raided the police station and took all the weapons and ammunition they could. They set the police station ablaze before they left.

A security alert was circulated on social media platforms in Enugu State capital after the attack on Sunday morning. Residents of the local government area and its surroundings were told to be careful and abstain from moving around at night.

“Warning! Achi, Inyi, Ojiriver, Ufuma, Umunze, Ajari, Arondiizogu, those axes are facing security challenges, Ngwo Iri sons & daughters, lets always be security cautious and avoid night movement. Above all, always commit our going out & coming in into the blood of almighty Jesus Christ, the Saviour,” the security alert read.

Enugu has experienced repeated attacks on security officials in recent times.
