First Bank has made a refund of N454,186 to Yinka Ojo, an Oyo state-based civil servant whose money was debited after an unsuccessful flight ticket purchase on July 4.

Ojo confirmed receipt of the refund to FIJ on Monday.

“They finally made the refund to my account on Friday, October 7, almost two months after FIJ’s story,” Ojo said.

“Thank you so much for your help. Thank you for stepping in.”

In August, FIJ had reported how Ojo had attempted to buy an air ticket from Wakanow. The civil servant eventually got debited of N450,000 despite the transaction not being successful.

“I attempted to pay for an air ticket with Wakanow in July. The payment was made with Paystack acting as the payment merchant. However, I couldn’t process the transaction,” the civil servant said.

“On July 4, I was sent a debit showing that the payment had been approved. The payment had been on ‘pending’ status until that time. But when I contacted Wakanow, the travel company, they said they were yet to receive the money.

“I assumed that Wakanow got a notification of the incoming payment but it bounced back, as the money didn’t get to their end.”

The failed transaction was eventually traced to First Bank.
