A manhunt has been launched towards apprehending four awaiting-trial inmates who took advantage of warders’ carelessness to escape from the Nigerian Correctional  Service (NCoS) Centre in Jos on Thursday morning

According to Samuel Aguda, the Controller-in-Charge of the NCoS in the state, the personnel who failed in their duties had been detained pending the conclusion of investigations.

“Yesterday (Thursday), at about 1am, four suspects who are awaiting trial over kidnapping and armed robbery escaped from our facility,” Aguda said

“When I came to the scene, I realised that it was either they duplicated the key to the cell or there was serious negligence on the part of personnel on duty. The inmates escaped through the fence.”

The Assistant Controller in charge of operations has been deployed to investigate the incident.

“We have also constituted a search party who visited motor parks, markets and other places in search of the escapees, but none has been arrested yet,” the Controller General said.

“But I want to assure members of the public that we will soon get them.”
