Reuben Okorie, a Nigerian businessman, has gone missing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, five months after he travelled to the city.

Fortune, his wife, told FIJ that she has not been able to reach him or any of his friends, who are also Dubai residents, for over a month.

She said Okorie, 34, had travelled to Dubai in May and with an initial plan of spending just three months there. However, after his visa expired in August, he told her he had relocated to another place with the hope of renewing his visa.

“Two of his numbers are now unreachable and he no longer comes online. I am confused and worried,” Fortune said.

“For the past one month, I have not heard from him. We have a baby boy together.

“I tried reaching his brother, but his number is not going through as well. I went to my mother-in-law’s house to ask if he had contacted her, but she had also not heard from him.

“The thing is really worrying for me. He went there to get work and his visa was for three months. He told me he would renew and stay there. When he called me with his former number, he told me his visa had expired and gave me a new number to reach him. Now, both numbers are unreachable.”

In August, the UAE authorities deported Nigerian nationals and other foreigners, but Fortune told FIJ that she had no idea whether he was deported or he managed to remain there.

FIJ placed calls to the known telephone number of Abike Dabiri, chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), but it was unreachable. She had also not responded to a text message sent to her at press time.
