The official website of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has failed to open for about two days and counting, FIJ has observed.

Established in August,1992, the National Broadcasting Commission is an agency of the Nigerian government saddled with the responsibility of regulating and managing the broadcasting ecosystem in the country. The commission also serves as advisors to the government on broadcasting issues.

When an internet user clicks on the official web address of NBC, https://nbc.gov.ng, a 500 error message welcomes such user. This error message makes it impossible for the user to carry out any action on the website.

Creators of the Internet browser, Mozilla, describes a 500 Internal Server Error  as a response code which “indicates that the server encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request.”

This error message has been showing for about two days and counting. Efforts to reach personnels at NBC to explain why this is happening have proven abortive, as calls to the commission failed to connect.

Via its website and social media handles, NBC gives update on its activities as an organisation. With the website inactive, Nigerians and foreigners alike will find it hard to access crucial information about the commission.

Also, with the ban on Twitter imposed by the Buhari-led administration, what this means is that the only currently available channel for getting informations about NBC is Facebook.

Earlier in the week, FIJ reported how NBC directed television and radio stations in Nigeria not to include “details” of victims of Boko Haram terrorists and bandits in their reporting.

The commission cautioned broadcast outfits against glamourising the activities of the terrorists in the course of their daily reporting.
