Two of the students of Bethel Baptist Secondary school, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State who were abducted by bandits earlier in the month have regained their freedom, Channels TV is reporting.

The medium quotes Mohammed Jalige, spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, as saying “they were rescued on Wednesday evening by police operatives in Rijanna area along the Kaduna-Abuja highway”.

However, FIJ notes that security operatives are known to say they have “rescued” abductees even in cases where the victims fled from captivity.

Jalige was reported to have said the two abducted students had been taken to a police medical facility for examinations.

On July 8, bandits had abducted 121 students of Bethel Baptist Secondary School from their hostels by bandits, with one regaining freedom last week.

The bandits are demanding a N60million ransom for the release of the kidnapped students, however the Nasir el-Rufai-led state government has a no-ransom policy.

Earlier, the kidnappers had asked the parents of the schoolchildren to send foodstuffs, otherwise the abductees would die of starvation.
