Elon Musk, Twitter’s owner, is currently running polls to decide when to unsuspend accounts “who doxxed his exact location in real-time”.

On Thursday, Twitter suspended numerous journalists who had been closely covering the platform and Musk since his $44 billion takeover.

Musk said that the journalists were suspended because they disclosed information on his real-time address. “You dox, you get suspended,” he told journalists on a Twitter space held after the suspension.

On his current pinned tweet, the billionaire wrote, “Criticizing me all day long is totally fine, but doxxing my real-time location and endangering my family is not.”

The Washington Post’s Drew Harwell, one of the journalists suspended, who was also present in the space, disputed Elon’s claims about disclosing his real location. Harwell told Musk he never posted his address.

“I never posted your address. In the course of reporting about Elon Jets we posted links to Elon jets,” he said.

Musk has been on the spotlight since acquiring Twitter, and one of his most parrotted reasons for doing so was ensuring free speech.

However, from dissolving Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council to targetting accounts who reported about him or publicly opposed him, Musk does not seem to be living up to his absolute free speech ideals.

Other journalists suspended from the platform include CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan, NewYork Times’ Ryan Mac, independent journalist Aaron Rupar and Tony Webster.
