A 100L student of Microbiology at the University of Jos, simply identified as Shedrach, has been stabbed to death inside a tricycle, FIJ can report.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened at about 3pm on Thursday between Yankari and Permanent Site Area in Jos, the capital of the Plateau State.

“The young man was stabbed from a tricycle he boarded and pushed out of the tricycle,” an eyewitness said.

“The crisis is not an isolated one but connected to the current Plateau crisis. By the time the Police got to the crime scene, the suspects had escaped.”

This is not the first time students of UNIJOS would be victims of the current unrest in Jos North Local Government Area. On Tuesday, FIJ confirmed the death of two students in a community off-campus.

On Sunday, the university’s management suspended the semester’s examinations owing to the crisis that followed the killing of 22 Muslim travellers on Rukuba Road on Saturday evening.

On Tuesday, Abdullahi Abdullahi, the spokesman of the university, told FIJ that the management was doing a head count of the students to ascertain how many of them were affected by the crisis. He was yet to respond to FIJ’s text message on Thursday evening to know about their findings.

As of press time, Gabriel Ubah, the state’s spokesman to the Police, was also yet to answer FIJ’s calls for comments on the latest attack.

Past reports have revealed that the agelong crisis in Plateau is related to a land ownership tussle between the nomadic Fulani herdsmen, who are mostly Muslims, and Christian farmers.
