Ramadan Salaudeen, a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) customer, has reported to FIJ how N44,400 was debited from his account after a failed web transaction.

On January 28, Salaudeen initiated a web payment of N44,400 for a flight ticket for his younger sister. He said the transaction was declined but his account was immediately debited.

Two days later, on January 30, he received an email from GTB notifying him of the transaction.

Salaudeen noted that the transaction was unsuccessful and that it was his OPay account that he used to pay for the flight ticket.

He told FIJ that he had sent several mails to GTB, asking for his money to be reversed, but had made no headway in recovering his funds.

Salaudeen said he visited the bank’s branch in Garki, Abuja, about two weeks earlier to make a complaint and was told that he would be notified of the reversal of his money in five working days.

He said he was yet to receive any notification or his money.

FIJ contacted GTB through its customer support channels on Twitter and WhatsApp but received only automated responses. A request made to connect with a customer support agent was not responded to.
