At the last check, 11 percent of the February 25 presidential election results had not been uploaded to the dedicated online portal provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the Electoral Act (2022), INEC officials were expected to upload results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal upon the conclusion of voting at each of the 176,846 polling units in the country.

On the result dashboard, results from 157,229 polling units had been uploaded when FIJ checked, while 19,617 polling units were yet to have their results online.

The uploaded figure represents 89% of the total results.

The election was conducted six days ago, and the electoral umpire has announced a winner. However, the refusal of INEC to upload results in real time has been a subject of controversy.

Announcing the winner, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman, said Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 6,984,520 votes; and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who got 6,101,533 votes.

The commission also said that Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 1,496,687 votes.

Following the announcement of the president-elect, aggrieved candidates vowed to challenge the election process in court.
