Olumide Oworu, the Labour Party (LP) candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly in Surulere Constituency I, was attacked by thugs on Thursday.

During a campaign, thugs attacked members of his campaign train, destroyed a restaurant and damaged properties while injuring some of them.

Following this attack, a picture of a bloodied Oworu began circulating on social media, with several people claiming thugs hired by the All Progressives Congress (APC) bruised him.

Oworu is yet to deny the claim, and it remains trendy on social media.

CLAIM 1: APC thugs attacked the Labour Party campaign in Surulere.

CLAIM 2: Picture shows assailants bruised Oworu’s face and left him bloodied.

VERIFICATION: Two claims were made on social media; one was that the assailants were hired by the APC, and the other was that Oworu suffered bruises that left him bloodstained in a white shirt and black tie.

As of press time, the police were investigating the matter, and they gave no statement confirming the APC’s involvement in the attack. Also, no suspects have been named.

FIJ checked Oworu’s and the LP’s social media networks to see if they shared the same picture but found that neither of them did.

FIJ also found that the image was from a movie set, On The Edge, and posted on Oworu’s Instagram page on October 3, 2022.

It was captioned “Alagbado John Wick #OnTheEdge”.

This image is six months old, and was published before Oworu declared his intention to contest for office.

CONCLUSION: Claim 1 is misleading, as there are no suspects linked to the attack, while Claim 2 is false.
