President Muhammadu Buhari has fired Saleh Mamman, the Minister of Power, and Alhaji Sabo Nanono, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Mohammed Mahmoud Abubakar, the current Minister of Environment, is expected to take over as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, while Abubakar Aliyu, the current Minister of State for Works, heads the Ministry of Power.

President Buhari, in a brief statement delivered by Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, today, said he had approved a reshuffle in the cabinet formed on August 21, 2019.

The President said the changes were borne out of the tradition of subjecting his administration’s projects and programmes to independent and critical self-review.

He said that the review steps had helped to identify and strengthen weak areas and build cohesion and synergy in governance, manage the economy and improve the delivery of public good to Nigerians.

“As we are all aware, change is the only factor that is constant in every human endeavour and as this administration approaches its critical phase in the second term, I have found it essential to reinvigorate this cabinet in a manner that will deepen its capacity to consolidate legacy achievements,” Buhari said.
