Lamidi Apapa, the Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party, has taken over the affairs of the party as its chairman.

This development occurred today in Abuja when some members of the national working committee of the party convened an emergency meeting to deliberate on a court order which earlier stopped Julius Abure, the embattled chairman, from leading the party.

Saleh Lawan was announced at the meeting as the new acting national secretary.

Lamidi said that without vacating the subsisting court order, Abure and others affected by the order had no business in the leadership of the party.

Members of the party, including Eragbe Anslem, the National Youth Leader; and Yomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary, earlier suspended were reinstated at the meeting.

FIJ had reported that a Federal Capital Territory High Court suspended Abure; Farouk Ibrahim, the National Secretary; Clement Ojukwu, the National Organising Secretary; and Oluchi Opara, the National Treasurer, over an allegation of forgery.

The party’s leadership crisis began when James Onoja, a member of the party, instituted a court action alleging that Abure and others listed in the case forged several documents of the FCT High Court to carry out a series of substitutions during the last elections.
