Access Bank has returned N2 million to Ade Okam (not real name), the Rivers State-based Information Technology (IT) specialist whose money was held for over two months.

Okam told FIJ that Access Bank credited his account with the N2 million on Monday, three days after FIJ’s publication on the incident.

On April 21, FIJ reported how Okam transferred the money to a friend in February but Access Bank would not credit the recipient’s account.

After the failed transfer, the bank would not also reverse the money into the IT specialist’s account, forcing him to pay several physical visits to the bank’s branches in Rivers State.

The credited N2 million

Access Bank sent an email to Okam on April 22, admitting that the transaction failed and promising to refund him within 24 hours.

The N2 million was eventually reversed into Okam’s account on Monday.

“I don’t know what I would have done without your publicity. Thank you very much, FIJ,” Okam said.

“I went to the bank 17 times, but they kept saying they were working on it. But all of a sudden, they could resolve the issue within 24 non-working hours. It no longer took them ‘several 14 working days’. Thank you for your intervention.”
