The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has foiled a freight agent’s attempt to smuggle 900 grams of Canadian Loud into Kenya.

‘Canadian Loud’ is an illicit drug imported from Canada and shipped in large quantities through Nigeria’s neighbouring countries such as Cameroon, Ghana and the Benin Republic.

The freight agent, identified as Mordi Chukwuemeka Samuel, had concealed the illicit drugs inside the walls of a travelling bag that contained food items.

NDLEA officers arrested him on Saturday at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, made this known on Sunday in a statement on the agency’s website.

“When Mordi presented the bag, which he claimed contained food items for export, operatives noticed that in the course of searching the consignment, the side walls of the bag were unevenly bloated, after which they dismantled the false packings and recovered the illicit substance,” he said.

A series of videos uploaded on Babafemi’s Twitter account revealed how the illicit drug was concealed in Mordi’s bag.

In the videos, an officer could be seen offloading the food items, like poundo yam, a bottle of palm oil, and packs of seasoning cubes, from the bag, after which the sides of the bag were cut open to reveal two packs of the illicit drug.

In a related development, the NDLEA intercepted 63kg of Canadian Loud during a joint examination with other stakeholders at the Tincan port last Friday.

The 63kg drugs were packed in bags in the boot of one of the five used vehicles in a container coming from Toronto via Montreal.
