The Lagos State Government, on the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), has charged Chidinma Ojukwu, a 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), and two others, with the murder of Michael Usifo Ataga, the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV.

Ojukwu was arrested by the Police on June 23, over the killing of Ataga at a short-let apartment in Lekki, Lagos.

On August 9, Ojukwu and Adedapo Quadri, another suspect in the murder, were arraigned at the Magistrate Court, Yaba, Lagos, with a request that the two be remanded in custody pending a recommendation from the DPP.

This led to the duo being remanded in police custody for 30 days.

Premium Times reported that Cyril Ajifor, the police prosecutor, told the court on Monday that the DPP had recommended that the two be tried for murder.

Following the recommendation, the case is expected to be transferred to the high court, which has jurisdiction over such matters.

Chioma Egbuchu, Ojukwu’s elder sister, was also charged alongside the defendants. According to the Police, the deceased’s phone was found in her possession.

The court adjourned the case until September 29.
