Tim Onome (real name withheld), a former national sales manager at Lagos-based Kuddy Cosmetics, has narrated how the company withheld his salary for years.
Onome told FIJ that Kuddy Cosmetics, owned by Kudirat Fashola, owed him a three-month salary worth N1.2 million and an additional N80,000 he spent on fueling the company’s vehicle for two months.
He said he worked for the company between June 3 and September 30, 2019, and Kuddy Cosmetics was to pay him N400,000 salary for each month.
However, out of the four months he worked with the company, he only got N400,000 in bits and pieces.
“They are owing me N1.28 million both for my three months’ salary and weekly fuelling of the company’s vehicle they gave me. The only N400,000 was paid and spaced in between the months I worked with them. They paid N150,000 for a month and another N100,000 in another month,” he said.
“They were also supposed to pay N10,000 every week as transportation and petrol allowance. But they stopped paying for the last two months I worked there, and I had to bear the expenses of fuelling the company’s vehicle for that period.
“When I saw that the way they ran their organisation did not suit me, I had to tender my resignation letter in September.”
According to Onome, all his efforts to get his money since 2019 have been futile.
“I have been begging them to pay my money, but my pleas have been falling on deaf ears. I really need the money at this point,” added the ex-Kuddy Cosmetics employee.
On Wednesday, May 10, FIJ sent an email to the company, but it was neither acknowledged nor responded to.
FIJ called the company’s CEO and Ibrahim Fashola, the operations director, on May 11, but their numbers were not available.
When the company’s head office was called on Thursday, the female customer service representative who responded said she would relay FIJ’s questions to the management. She promised to call back after 15 minutes, but she did not do so. When FIJ called the number again after the time had elapsed, nobody answered the phone.
On Friday, May 12, FIJ sent messages to the company’s CEO and operations director. Although the former did not respond, the latter promised to “respond via email with the necessary information needed to clarify the allegations”.
