Sanmi Dada, a Nigerian studying in the United Kingdom, is on the verge of dropping out because the United Bank for Africa (UBA) has refused to process his tuition.

Dada told FIJ he initiated a payment of £6,000 on January 26 and was told to wait for 100 days to get it processed. Although the 100-day processing period has elapsed, the bank is yet to pay his tuition.

The Nigerian student said he had written to UBA ever since the 100-day period elapsed via mail to expedite the payment process but only got automated responses.

“I have waited for the standard 100-day processing period, but UBA has not paid my tuition. I am now on the brink of losing my admission,” Dada told FIJ.

Email with UBA

He said the university had given him a deadline to pay his fees.

“My school gave me a 10-day waiting period, which will elapse on May 28. I am on the brink of being withdrawn from school if I do not pay up,” he said.

FIJ emailed UBA for comments, but the bank had not responded at press time.

However, a comment from the UBA official handle on Twitter says that “applications are treated within 100 working days, as communicated earlier”.
