Innocent Etonu, a Rivers State-based chief operating officer, has recounted how Max Air, a Nigerian airline, refused him a refund of N58,000 after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) suspended its operations in July.

Speaking with FIJ, Etonu said he booked his ticket on June 26 to fly from Port Harcourt to Abuja. But the flight, which was scheduled for July 15, was cancelled following a suspension of Max Air’s activities by the NCAA.

“I bought a ticket with Max Air on June 26 for a trip to Abuja from Port Harcourt,” he told FIJ.

“But, a day before the trip on July 14, my ticket was cancelled due to the Nigerian Civil Aviation suspension on Max Air.”

The Rivers State resident said that, after the suspension on the airline’s operations was lifted, he contacted the airline to reuse his ticket but they told him that they were no longer operating the route his ticket was issued for.

“After Max Air resumed operations, they said I could not use my ticket because they were no longer operating on my route,” he said.

“It was at this point I then approached them for a refund. Since then, I have been trying to get a refund from them.

“I have also sent them emails but to no avail. Meanwhile, I had to immediately book a new ticket with another airline in a bid not to miss my appointment. I have had to incur double expenses because of them.”

When FIJ sent an email to Max Air on Monday afternoon, enquiring about Etonu’s refund, our reporter received no response. There was no reply from Max Air at press time.
