Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has restored power for residents of Rasco-Irawo, a community in the Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos, after FIJ’s report.

Rasco’s electricity, which was disconnected over a flood in a neighbouring community, was restored on Tuesday, while the flooded community was left off the grid for safety reasons.

On Tuesday, FIJ had reported that Rasco-Irawo was in darkness for six days after IKEDC cut its supplies indefinitely on September 15. Subsequently, the company said it took the action to prevent electrocution, as Rasco shared a transformer with a flooded community.

Speaking with FIJ, Adebayo Dawodu, IKEDC’s spokesman, said, “Their concerns have got to us. The action was for safety reasons. They also raised the argument that their own side of the community was not directly affected.”

Felix Ofulue, the company’s head of corporate communications, had earlier told FIJ that the problem would be resolved.

“We have listened to their concerns,” he said. “We will isolate the other side and provide electricity to Rasco.”

Ofulue gave assurances that the light would be restored, and in less than two hours, the promise was fulfilled.
