One Clara Natera, who claims to be a rheumatologist, has taken over a Facebook page to share manipulated videos to market a cream they claim cures joint pain.

Via the username ‘Beautiful Flowers & Roses’, Natera shared altered videos of TVC News reports, Chinonso Egemba, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, and another man, all testifying to the potency of this miracle pain relief cream.

Two of the videos feature Egemba and two different TVC reporters.

FIJ found that the videos were generated from old video recordings, while the audio and mouth movements were altered to make it appear as though those in the video were endorsing the product.

The TVC reporter in one of the videos was manipulated to appear to say “Joint pain will go away in two days. Diseases of the joints, bones and muscles can lead to loss of a limb, and in cases of infected inflammation, to death”.

The video then shows Egemba saying, “Yes indeed, there is a cream that will completely get rid of joint pain in one course of treatment. It cures osteoarthritis, arthritis, disc herniation and other joint diseases. You can buy the phone online at half the pharmacy price.”

Another man follows and says, “Hundreds of my clients have healed their joints. Click on the button, more information.”

FIJ also found similarly manipulated videos of Caucasian people speaking in a foreign language to market the same cream.

The posts lead people to a page here. On that page, Natera markets Motion Energy cream, which she claims cures bone ailments. She asks people to fill in their names and phone numbers to order the N28,000 cream.

The website has no contact information with which FIJ would have followed up for comments.
