Former United States president Donald Trump’s newly announced social media platform, “TRUTH Social”, has been hijacked ahead of launch.

The hijackers created accounts using usernames “donaldtrump” and “mikepence” in a bid to mock the controversial former president and social media enthusiast, according to a report by the Independent.

In a statement on Wednesday, Trump had expressed excitement over the new platform which he said would help him “fight back against the Big Tech”.

“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable,” Trump said.

“I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech.”

Although the platform is not expected to be up until the first quarter of 2022, users were able to access its beta version through a URL that surfaced online.

Trump was banned from several major social media platforms, including Twitter, following the invasion of the US Capitol by his followers that resulted in the death of about five people.
