Abductors of Odetunde Ayodeji Emmanuel, a Sociology student of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, are asking for a ransom of N100 million, his brother Olumide has told FIJ.

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen abducted Emmanuel at Oke Odan, Apete community while he was working on his father’s poultry farm on Monday evening.

The family members have since alerted the state government and the Oyo State police command on the issue.

Speaking with FIJ on Wednesday, Samuel said that the abductors had been in contact with the family.

“We are already in contact with the abductors. As of yesterday (Tuesday), they were still insisting on N100 million before my brother can be released,” he said.

“The money demanded is not something within the family’s power. Otherwise, we would have paid. The safety of my brother is what matters.”

Olugbenga Fadeyi, the Oyo state police public relations officer, said the police was “working assiduously to rescue the abducted young man”.

“The police is working with the vigilante as well as the hunters to comb the area and fish out the criminal element,” he said.

“We have also deployed a police tactical team, including an anti-kidnapping squad, that will help in the rescue mission. In no distant time, the abductee will be rescued.”

Also, Ngozi Onadeko, Oyo state commissioner of police, asked members of the public with helpful information to report within.

She also admonished the entire residents of Oyo to be vigilant in order to put an end to the spate of insecurity.

“We all have a role to play in putting an end to this heinous crime, which is currently in our communities,” Onadeko said. “People should not allow anyone with suspicious characters to hibernate around them.”

Police is always on top of the situation. It’s the usual statement with little or no result. Life under Bubu is very cheap and even cheaper than cows.
