Campaign posters bearing names and pictures of Charles Soludo, the governorship candidate of the All Progress Grand Alliance (APGA), are trending on Twitter amid the ongoing election in Anambra State.

With different versions of the campaign posters, some Twitter users using #VoteAPGA urged Anambra citizens to vote for Soludo as their preferred governorship candidate.

“For a better Anambra. Let’s go out today and make our vote count. Soludo is the man for the job,” Dimkpa Anambra, a Twitter user, said. This was followed by many other tweets campaigning for Soludo, in clear violation of the ongoing election rules and regulations.

Section 101 (1-3) of the Electoral Acr 2010 (as amended) stipulates that “broadcasting or publishing any material for the purpose of promoting or opposing a particular candidate during 24 hours immediately preceding election or on polling day” attracts “a maximum fine of N500,000 or to imprisonment for a term of 12 months and in case of a body corporate shall pay a maximum fine of N1,000,000”.

Although the campaign posters were not trended using the APGA’s official Twitter account, critics say trending such flyers on polling day could induce unsuspecting voters.
