The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has staged a nationwide protest over moves by the National Assembly to move the National Minimum Wage from the Exclusive to the concurrent Legislative List.

If implemented. states will be backed by law to pay workers according to their financial capacities.

On Tuesday, the umbrella labour union had said the protest would be held in the houses of assembly across the 26 states of the country.

The protest, led by Ayuba Wabba, NLC President, started at the Unity Fountain in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday.

FIJ gathered that the protest has also commenced in Ogun, Lagos, Benue and Kaduna states respectively.

According to TheNation, the secretariat of the Ogun NLC has been surged with organised workers preparing to storm the state’s House of Assembly.

Emmanuel Bankole, who led the workers heading to the national assembly, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to leave the minimum wage on the exclusive list.
