Sukairaj Kabir, an Islamic cleric in the Rimin Auzunawa area of Kano State, has been accused of raping a 15-year-old mentally-ill girl continually for four years.

Kabir, who was the victim’s teacher, forced himself on her in private places, a source told FIJ.

On Thursday, a Kano Magistrate Court remanded the 38-year-old teacher for forcing himself on the girl despite her mental illness.

Although Kabir pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and cruelty, Mustapha Sa’ad-Datti, the chief magistrate, adjourned the case until January 10, 2022.

Asma’u Ado, the prosecutor, had told the court that the defendant committed the crimes between 2018 and 2021 at his Islamic school around the Tudun Yola area of the state, according to BBC Hausa.

“The defendant had illegal sexual relations with the girl for four years, starting at the age of 12,” she said.
