Sources said the terrorists were, in the last 48 hours, “moving on motorcycles through a village in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State to Birnin Gwari, a porous border with Niger State”.

There are fears that bandit leaders are leading their gangs to Kaduna and Niger to continue their atrocities unhindered.

The death of Alhaji Auta, a frightening bandit leader killed by military airstrikes, is forcing the bandits to relocate to other places.

Zamfara experienced a surge in banditry attacks last year. Several citizens were killed and many others were kidnapped for ransom. Recently, the Nigerian military intensified onslaughts against the bandits.

On Monday, FIJ reported that Bello Turji, a ruthless bandit leader in Zamfara State, unconditionally released all his captives. Turji also urged his colleagues wrecking havoc in other states to imitate him.

A source in Gusau had told FIJ that the seemingly tired terrorist released over 100 captives. The released captives, the source said, had not yet reunited with their families. “They are undergoing checkups at Gusau General Hospital,” he said.
