Adulterated fuel allegedly supplied by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is damaging vehicles in Lagos State, FIJ can report.

The gasoline supplied is said to contain a high sulphur content and, as such, damaged vehicles’ engines and forced service stations to stop operations.

Ardova PLC, Enyo, Northwest, Total, Pinnacle and Mobil are some of the oil companies said to have been affected. In a video seen by FIJ, a worker at a Mobil petrol station says the fuel supplied by a Lagos depot, which gets fuel from the NNPC, damaged customer’s vehicles.

“This is the fuel and we are filtering it. That car is spoilt, even the bikes too. The owner of the car has abandoned it and even reported us to the police. We are not working because customers are complaining”.

In another video, recorded at an MRS station, the fuel appears very brown and could be mistaken for dirty water.

Many people who had their vehicles damaged have complained about the situation.

FIJ also gathered that there are over 100 million litres of the contaminated fuel in circulation.
