01.03.2022 Featured REPORT: 102 Ukrainian Civilians Killed, 304 Injured in First Three Days of War

A report recently released by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has revealed that 406 civilian casualties were recorded in Ukraine within the first three days of Russia’s invasion of the country.

According to the report dated February 28, 102 civilians died, while another 304 were injured.

“From 4am on February 24, 2022, when the Russian Federation’s military action against Ukraine started, until 12 midnight on February 27, 2022, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 406 civilian casualties in Ukraine: 102 killed (15 men, 14 women, 3 boys, 2 girls, as well as 2 children and 66 adults whose sex is yet unknown) and 304 injured (26 men, 18 women, 5 girls, 2 boys, as well as 14 children and 239 adults, whose sex is yet unknown),” the report reads in part.

In the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of the country, 50 were reportedly killed and 146 injured, and then 37 killed and 151 injured in Government-controlled territories, among others.

“210 casualties (52 killed and 158 injured), were recorded in other regions of Ukraine (the city of Kyiv and Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Sumy and Zaporizhzia regions) in places which were under Government control when casualties occurred,” says the UN.

Most of the casualties are as a result of the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including heavy artillery, Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) and air strikes.
