Janet Tella, a litigation officer, has narrated how she was robbed by criminals pretending to be a commercial driver and a conductor in Lagos.

On March 16, Tella boarded the popular Danfo from Maryland to her work place in Obalende. She remained unsuspecting until the driver attempted turning to a strange route.

“I told him that was not where I was headed and he said he wanted to beat traffic,” Tella told FIJ.

“Immediately after that conversation, the supposed conductor stood up and instructed someone, in Yoruba, to hold my legs. The person held my legs while another person pressed my neck. They beat me and used a hammer on me.

“They threatened me with acid, knives and guns. They collected my bag, phones and ATM card. They passed my ATM card to someone through the window and told the person to go and confirm if the pin was correct. They also took my phone passwords.

“After I had been robbed, they asked me to sit properly and act like everything was alright.

“The driver poured a liquid on my palm, which made it very hard. He then proceeded to apply a balm on my eyes. They pushed me out of the bus. I couldn’t open my eyes. It took time to realise that I was stopped in Gbagada.

She also stated that she had been traumatised since the incident.

“When I sleep at night and I feel like someone is coming, I become scared, crying and shouting,” she said.

When asked if she had reported the incident to the Police, she said: “I have not been able to go out since then.”
